i have these male-gendered pants that i got for really cheap because they were a factory reject or something.

the reason they were sold as that, is because the pockets were small. The color was fine, there weren’t any holes, or manufacturing defects, it just had pockets like girl jeans.

So to recap, if it has small pockets, it’s ok for girls, but if they’re boy jeans, then it’s a factory flaw and not worth full-price.

A woman-of-color who writes poetry or paints or dances or makes movies knows there is no escape from race or gender when she is writing or painting. She can’t take off her color and sex and leave them at the door or her study or studio. Nor can she leave behind her history. Art is about identity, among other things, and her creativity is political.
i love your url because "vivian" sounds all pretty and flowery and "vivisection" sounds like murder and the general impression i get is that you could kill all those who attempt to insult you and publicly display their mangled corpses and look gorgeous and terrifying at the same time was that what you were going for? 'cause it's great

Have you ever read or studied Slavoj Žižek? Any thoughts or feelings about him?
Anonymous

I have read bits & pieces separately, and I read his collection of Lenin’s letters, and he is a very flawed person who from time to time manages to make some good critiques of ideology, individualism & the importance of experience.

However, he is very casually racist towards Romani people, and very condoning of anti-Romani sentiment in Europe.

His critiques of multiculturalism fall very flat, are steeped in racism & generally just bad.

He once made a remark that if  you followed strict Marxist theory, Venezuela would be exploiting the US economically in terms of oil trade, which is an extremely gross understanding of Marxism.

He’s funny to make memes about, but as a whole not worth much else.

catcalls and other street harassment are a form of violence and expressed hatred for women and don’t ever think of it as anything but that because a man on the street can go from “hey baby you look sexy tonight” to “bitch don’t fucking ignore me” in .002 seconds
it’s not about appreciating a woman’s beauty or boosting her ego with a little compliment, it’s intimidation and a source of empowerment for them

i unironically believe that the only thing you should need to do to access medical or legal transition is ask.

but seriously. why be cis when you could be trans??

It seems to me that on one page I recognized a portion of an old diary of mine which mysteriously disappeared shortly after my marriage, and, also, scraps of letters which, though considerably edited, sound to me vaguely familiar. In fact, Mr. Fitzgerald (I believe that is how he spells his name) seems to believe that plagiarism begins at home.

—Zelda Fitzgerald, in a review of her husband’s book in 1922 (via trishahaddad)

Reminder that F. Scott Fitzgerald stole his wife’s writing, many times, while suppressing her works. See “Save Me the Waltz”, which he forced her to revise so that he could use parts of it in his own book “Tender Is the Night”. And which author do we study in school?

(via rubyvroom)

I didn’t know this.

(via alienswithankhs)

He also encouraged her to have affairs so he could use that for inspiration, and when she wanted to leave him for a man she fell in love with, he locked her in their house and wouldn’t let her leave.

When she wanted to publish “Save me the Waltz,” Fitzgerald wrote in his diary about DELIBERATELY trying to TRIGGER her schizophrenic episodes and making her incapable of fighting that battle.

And Fitzgerald scholars KNOW all this.  They write articles about how it was all okay because in the end, it inspired Fitzgerald to write Great Literature.

Fuck I didn’t know this fuck ugh god why fuck ugh

(via lesbianoutwestinvenice)

Yep. All true. Learned about his trifling ass studying creative writing and English lit. at CSU. Didn’t read ONE of her books on high school, yet we’re taught how amazing and talented he was. Makes me sick. xBx

Um. I thought it was common knowledge that he was an asshole?

(via nihilistic-void)

I knew he was an asshole, but not that bad….
